Recently, Vidyo (News - Alert) announced that it will be displaying the currently available VidyoRouter Virtual Edition (VE) with a technology demonstration of VidyoDesktop running on VMware View at an upcoming event.

VidyoRouter provides all the benefits of a modern software-based infrastructure for video conferencing with improved quality, reach and cost savings. This essential component makes VidyoConferencing the only collaboration platform to provide a consistent telepresence experience to everyone, over everyday broadband networks.

Making multipoint video conferencing scalable to hundreds of participants at a fraction of the cost of traditional solutions, VidyoRouter moves telepresence beyond conference room walls.

VidyoRouter performs transcoding-free packet switching with the help of the company’s patented Adaptive Video Layering technology, unlike legacy systems that rely on expensive Multipoint Control Units (MCU) for centralized bridging and transcoding.

VidyoRouter optimizes video streams to the capabilities of each individual endpoint and network conditions. While considerably reducing the cost of ownership to just pennies per minute, this advanced infrastructure improves the overall video conferencing experience, the company said recently.

“Virtualization enables efficiency, cost saving and new deployment capabilities,” said Ashish Gupta (News - Alert), CMO and SVP of Corporate Development at Vidyo. “With support for VMware environments, Vidyo brings increased quality and value to end-users and IT departments by delivering a multimedia solution that is truly scalable and supports a variety of firewall solutions, devices and wide area networks requirements including those for branch offices and small businesses.”

Recently, Amir Shaked joined the company as new senior vice president for Product Management. Concentrating on video conferencing, new media, e-commerce, application acceleration and telecommunications applications, Shaked has previously worked at a number of companies at responsible positions such as president, CEO and general manager.
