IMTC Merges with MEF

December 01, 2017

The International Multimedia Telecommunications Consortium (IMTC) announced its merging operations with MEF. IMTC is a non-profit organization focused on developing and using interoperable, real-time, multimedia telecommunication products and services on a global level, hosting testing events worldwide. That includes driving development of conferencing software, hardware and services that allow businesses to maximize their collaborative efforts internally and with customers, partners, and suppliers globally.  In order to create the best possible conferencing experience, hardware, software, and networks all must follow interoperability standards.

Everything the IMTC is known for will still be prevalent during the merger with MEF, including its work on simulcast and scalable video (SSV), real-time media software-defined networks (RTM SDN), WebRTC, and IoT. Additionally, the SuperOp! testing event, which takes place annually, will continue as planned.  This event allows multimedia companies to test products and services, from start-ups to enterprises, helping to ensure interoperability.

Anatoli Levine, IMTC President, said: “The IMTC’s focus on the user experience led directly to the high and consistent quality of our work. As we merge IMTC’s operations with MEF, we are proud of all that we have accomplished over the past 24 years and the major impact we have had on the industry.”

“Multimedia systems have evolved from an academic novelty to the cornerstone of the corporate (and consumer) communications arsenal. IMTC has tracked this historical evolution, and has always endeavored to ensure interoperability across the industry as the technology evolved and matured,” added Alex Eleftheriadis, IMTC Vice President and Chief Scientist at Vidyo. “For nearly 25 years, IMTC has helped vendors and service providers understand the importance of interoperability, and has given them the technical discussion forum and equipment testing venue that enabled them to develop solutions that deliver it.”

IMTC’s newest published works cover RTM SDN, SSV, and SIP Interconnect standards as well as best practices.
