Owl Labs to Create Inclusive Video Conferencing Solutions
One of the perks of video conferencing is that it’s supposed to make remote workers feel more involved in office operations. Being a remote worker can become difficult, as it’s easy to feel like you’re out of the loop. When video conferencing came on the scene, it promised to fix all that. However, some might say that it has yet to do so.
At the end of the day, plenty of video conferencing solutions are not optimized for remote workers, making them feel like an outcast during team meetings. That’s why Owl Labs is dedicated to solving this problem by creating a new solution to connect remote employees. The company took its first step toward achieving this goal recently when it announced a $6 million Series A financing led by Matrix Partners.
Antonio Rodriguez, General Partner at Matrix and early investor in Oculus VR, discussed the reasoning behind the financing by stating that Owl Labs may have the missing piece to the video conferencing market’s success. He stated, “As much as the Internet has improved the way remote work gets done, we've got a long way to go…After seeing Owl Labs' prototype for the first time, it was clear that this could be the missing piece that helps remote participants feel as though they were in the room."
Although all the details on this new video conferencing solution have yet to be released, we do know that Owl Labs' innovative new technology will be one of the first IoT devices for the company conference room. According to the announdement, “The product is a USB audio and video device that optimizes the remote employee's meeting experience.”
Owl Labs will share full product details at the product's launch this summer, and it will be available for purchase later this year.
