Metaswitch Adds Zoom's Video Communications Technology to its UC
The integrated solutions that are part of unified communications (UC) gives customers access to most, if not all, of the technology they need to communicate with voice, video, conferencing, email and more. One of the key features in UC is video, which is increasingly being used as the preferred tool for communicating by businesses.
As a designer and developer of commercial and open source software solutions for network operators, Metaswitch provides a range of communications solutions, including UC. The company announced it is going to be integrating the Web and video conferencing capabilities of Zoom Video Communications Inc. to enhance its Accession UC and collaboration solution.
This has led many service providers to start integrating video collaboration solutions from other vendors into their platforms. The Accession UC and collaboration solution by Metaswitch is service that allows network operators to deliver business telephony services to an end user’s PC, portable device or handset over wired Ethernet, Wi-Fi or 3G/4G. Features such as conferencing, instant messaging, presence, collaboration, video and integration can now be offered along with third-party applications.
"Accession’s comprehensive feature set, enabled by integration with Zoom, allows service providers to take maximum advantage of the strong growth of the unified communications market," said Elka Popova, program director, information and communication technologies, Frost & Sullivan.
Metaswitch delivers this service using SILK codec and its 100 percent virtualized Perimeta Session Border Controller (SBC) for high-quality, high-definition UC experience with high resilience to packet loss. The Zoom platform can take advantage of this technology to ensure QoS no matter what device the end user is on.
“Metaswitch is a global leader in delivering software solutions for service providers to drive new revenues," said Eric S. Yuan, founder and CEO of Zoom. "Through our integration, providers can now bring new levels of collaboration to their business customers."
The Zoom cloud video conferencing provides HD video and voice with dynamic voice-detection to pick up all participants in a conference. It also features full screen and gallery view along with dual stream for dual screen. Users can participate in a conference by dialing a phone or H.323/SIP room systems, Zoom Rooms and as view-only attendee.
Once a group collaboration has been initiated, users can start participating on their Mac, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android devices. They can group-message and screen-share documents, photos and video clips. The Zoom platform gives administrators greater control and security features to secure the conferences with Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption, AES 256-bits encryption and HTTPS access.
The cloud collaboration market is growing at double digit rates as more organizations start capitalizing on the benefits of the technology. According to Markets and Markets, it projects the market to grow at a CAGR of 15.3 percent from 2014 to 2019, to $21.4 billion by the end of the forecast period.
