DSP Group's XceedR DECT Powers the Alto Amplified Telephone from Clarity

DSP Group’s XceedR DECT (News - Alert) chipset solution will be powering Alto, the new amplified telephone from Clarity. DSP is a provider of wireless chipset solutions for converged communications.

Sai Yelisetty, vice president US sales and marketing of DSP Group said, “We are pleased with our long-term partnership with Clarity (News - Alert), and of course with their choice of our XceedR DECT chipset solution to power their best in class amplified phones. Leveraging DSP Group’s chipset, Clarity will lead the industry forward to meet emerging audio standards.”

According to officials, the DSP-powered telephone has successfully cleared the Telephone Industry Association’s (TIA (News - Alert)) new standard for sound amplification and frequency, TIA-4953.

The new TIA-4953 standard was published in May 2012. It outlines the industry benchmarks for telephones designed for individuals with hearing loss. This initiative is expected to help hearing impaired consumers, providing them with objective information to verify how a specific telephone model can help them in communication.

The XceedR SoC DECT cordless chipset family from DSP offers an extended range, with powerful processing capabilities and optimum audio quality for cordless telephony. Further, the solution’s firmware and reference software features help in reducing time to market besides guaranteeing standards compliancy.

It also delivers HD quality audio, multi-line, multi-party conferencing and mobility support features through DECT/CAT-iq handsets and headsets.

Carsten Trads, president of Clarity said, “DSP Group’s (News - Alert) XceedR chipset helped us to meet the new standard’s rigorous requirements. These new requirements are critically important to improve telephone communication for millions in the hearing impaired community. People with hearing loss can be confident that telephones compliant with the new TIA standards will, without a doubt, help them communicate better, measurably improving their quality of life.”

In related news, CEVA, Inc. (News - Alert), a licensor of silicon intellectual property (SIP) platform solutions and DSP cores, announced that DSP Group licensed and deployed the CEVA-TeakLite-III DSP in the latest voice and audio SoC powering its HDClear solution.

The DBMD2 SoC enables enhanced noise cancellation and maximizes automatic speech recognition (ASR) accuracy in any environment, isolating voice from surrounding environmental noise, enabling mobile users to use their voice effectively anywhere.
