Polycom Connects Saint Petersburg State University to Universities Worldwide

Polycom (News - Alert) specializing in open standards-based unified communications has implemented the Polycom RealPresence Platform and RealPresence Room solutions in Saint Petersburg State University campus in Russia.

Ilya Gorbunov, CIO of the university said, “After evaluation, Polycom was technically among the best solutions available on the market today. We built the complete network based on the carrier-grade video infrastructure provided by the Polycom RealPresence Platform.”

This deployment will enhance the quality of learning, besides improving the communications between students and faculty. Polycom was picked to deliver the UC solution owing to its comprehensive video collaboration solutions that are suitable for mobile devices and immersive telepresence theaters as well.

“The Polycom solutions bring HD video collaboration to any size rooms and any work environment, from large conference halls, to individual desktop solutions, to mobile devices. And from that we can easily add more systems as the usage increases,” Gorbunov added.

All students and staff members can leverage the Polycom RealPresence video solutions to collaborate with international universities. The platform is interoperable with several business and communications applications enabling easy connection and seamless integration with multi-vendor video collaboration solutions that maybe in use with other international institutions, said officials.

Polycom RealPresence video solutions will enhance internal meetings, lectures and seminars. The Polycom RealPresence Collaboration Servers installed at the university will mix multi-party voice, video and content together in the same call. As the university is keen on offering exchange programs for students, researchers and academic staff, the Polycom RealPresence video solutions will enable this via easy HD online interactions.

Also, the Polycom RealPresence Room solutions will help more students to participate in a lecture, from different locations eliminating the problem of insufficient space in lecture halls.

According to officials, the Polycom solutions can connect students from Saint Petersburg University to universities in UK, Italy, Germany, Canada, the Netherlands, Sweden and Japan.

Recently, True Data Technology announced new and advanced accreditations through Polycom’s advanced certification programs. Solutions for True Data’s customers include Polycom Video, Infrastructure, Circuit Switched Voice and many others. Polycom product certifications will help True Data furnish customers with the highest level of flexibility and satisfaction.
