TMCnet Conferencing Week in Review

As summer is winding down, the Conferencing community is heating up. Let’s take a look at some of the news from this past week.

Radvision won the Nemertes 2012 PilotHouse Award, based on surveys of customers who praised the company for its technological innovation, as well as for its customer service. In addition, Radvision’s Scopia XT5000 won a Frost & Sullivan (News - Alert) New Product Innovation Product Award.

Also this past week, at IFA 2012 in Berlin, Fraunhofer IIS presented its audio codec Enhanced Low Delay (AAC-ELD) for Smart TV video telephony. The full HD-voice capable audio codec supports audio bandwidths of 14Hz or more to provide a realistic communications experience. Apple’s (News - Alert) FaceTime as well as other telepresence and video conferencing applications rely on AAC-ELD technology.

In other new product news, IOCOM launched Visimeet Mobile, a version of its video conferencing and collaboration platform for iOS-enabled devices. Users who conference with Visimeet Mobile can send and receive PowerPoint presentations, IM with other participants, share URLs and send snapshots from a mobile camera. iOS users can download the new app from the iTunes Store.

Additionally, Aastra released its BluStar Application Server Release 4.1 this past week, featuring BluStar-enabled devices and clients such as the BluStar 8000i Desktop Media phone, BluStar for PC, BluStar for iPad and BluStar for iPhone (News - Alert). The new release addresses security concerns with its new VPN capability, which makes a secure tunnel between the BAS and the BluStar 8000i to help remote users connect to corporate networks.

ClearOne unveiled its new corporate website this week, which is designed to more effectively showcase ClearOne’s lineup of legacy audio products, its AV streaming and digital signage solutions, and its room, video and infrastructure-based conferencing products. More product resources, a corporate blog and integrated social media will work together to create more communications channels with partners and customers.

For both this week’s Democratic convention and last week’s Republican convention, Paltalk’s (News - Alert) News and Programming Director, Gary Baumgarten, provided coverage from 5 p.m. until the end of the scheduled day. Paltalk participants were able to ask questions and to interact with newsmakers through the company’s U.S. Election Central 2012.

The conventions have wrapped up, but TMCnet’s Conferencing coverage never rests. Check back next week for all of the news from the Conferencing community.
