TMCnet Conferencing Week in Review

Mobile connectivity is on the rise. And more and more consumers are tapping their smartphones, iPads and tablets for collaborative work and video conferencing. Observing this trend, medical service providers are exploiting unified communications and video collaborations to bring remote patients closer to medical professionals. So, once again, this past week there were many motivating announcements in this community.

To quickly bring remote care to those suffering from a stroke, standards-based unified communications provider Polycom Inc. is helping the Telestroke Network Project at National Health Service in Surrey, U.K. with its high-definition video collaboration solutions. The goal here is to save the lives of remote stroke victims by bringing them face-to-face with medical professionals for vital early intervention, according to a report filed by TMCnet contributor Deborah Hirsch.

As per Deborah’s report, Polycom is also helping the U.K.-based NHS Cumbria & Lancashire Cardiac and Stroke Network (CSNLC) to provide telestroke service to remote patients by connecting them with doctors in the critical time of their life. According to Stroke Association, approximately 150,000 people in the U.K. have a stroke every year, wrote Hirsch.

To address mobile productivity via connectivity, Avaya launched Flare Communicator for Apple (News - Alert) iPads, wrote TMC executive editor Paula Bernier. As a result, according to Bernier’s report,

“This will provide mobile workers with secure connectivity, and unified communications and collaboration functionality, over Wi-Fi and 3G networks.”

“We’re really enabling an extension of the office now to the mobile knowledge workers," Karen Hardy, director of product marketing at Avaya (News - Alert), told TMCnet.

At Stablenet’s  recently concluded Unified Communications event, the company offered an opportunity to visitors to see it’s best enterprise mobility and cloud HD video conferencing solutions, wrote TMCnet contributor Shamila Janakiraman. According to Janakiraman’s report, the UC event was organized in collaboration with LifeSize (News - Alert), a company that specializes in high-definition video collaboration.

Meanwhile, TMDistributing, a provider of integrated solutions for the visual communications market, has adopted a new name, TMD, wrote TMCnet contributor Mandira Srivastava.

Srivastava’s report quoted TMC (News - Alert) CEO Darcy Harrell, as saying, "Building on our position as the only company in the industry to offer true integration of audio-visual and IT, the name TMD and our new logo signal the energy, passion, and turnkey solutions we offer our customers." He added, "We help our client's teams collaborate more effectively than ever before through the smart deployment of inspired technology."
