Radisys Introduces Industry's First ATCA Solution for Device Video Optimization

HILLSBORO, Ore. --(Business Wire)--

Radisys® Corporation (NASDAQ: RSYS), a market leader enabling wireless infrastructure solutions, today announced that it will deliver the world's first ATCA video optimization solution based on Intel (News - Alert)® technology. The explosive growth in mobile video and proliferation of new smartphones and tablets is driving demand for a cost-effective solution that optimizes video traffic per device for the available bandwidth and screen size. Telecom Equipment Manufacturers (TEMs) can leverage Radisys' ATCA Video Optimization Blade to reduce cost per stream by 25% for carrier-grade video optimization. Radisys will be demonstrating the solution at Mobile World Congress (News - Alert), February 25-28 in Barcelona.

"Our new video optimization solution is another example of our continued leadership in delivering powerful ATCA solutions to TEMs, meeting their requirements for lowered costs and accelerated time-to-market," said Keate Despain (News - Alert), vice president and general manager, Platforms, Radisys. "Radisys' Video Optimization Blade provides an alternative to current market solutions that are expensive and often proprietary."

Radisys worked with Intel on the carrier-grade Video Optimization Blade to increase transcoding densities at a lower cost than existing solutions. Radisys took a unique approach to reducing the cost per video session by using six Core i7-3612QE Intel mobile procesors on the ATCA blade. This solution provides up to 48 streams of transcoding H.264 at 1080p at 30 frames per second.

"Solutions like Radisys' Video Optimization Blade help to deliver critical cost savings by providing high density for transcoding per stream and dollar for media framework solutions," said Stephen Price, General Manager of Intel's Communications Infrastructure Division. "This Intel® architecture based blade addresses TEMs mobile infrastructure cost and performance challenges and provides optimized video quality experience for the end users."

Radisys is now offering evaluation units of its Video Optimization Blade. For more information, contact or +1.800.950.0044.

ATCA Video Optimization Demonstration at Mobile World Congress

Radisys and Intel will be demonstrating the new ATCA Video Optimization Blade at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, February 25-28 in Intel's Stand 3C34, Hall 3. How often have you had a teleconference where—because of audio-related issues—you had difficulty in conducting an important meeting? Or in some cases, not even being able to make a clear connection at all? Curtiss Singleton, Director of Sales for the Americas at Revolabs, Inc., discusses conferencing solutions that not only provide unmatched audio quality, but ones that also “cut the cord”—giving you the freedom to move around the workspace. Doug Green, Publisher of Telecom Reseller, speaks with JP Carney, President and CEO of Revolabs, about the company, the importance of audio quality in UC, the compatibility of their products with various UC platforms, and their acquisition by Yamaha after one year. They discuss how clear audio for teleconferencing is the core element of true collaboration.
