County moving forward with video-conferencing

SUNBURY, Feb 14, 2013 (The News-Item - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Northumberland County commissioners unanimously agreed Tuesday to move forward with a video-conferencing project between the prison and court system that was previously approved by the prison board.

Commissioners Vinny Clausi, Richard Shoch and Stephen Bridy committed a maximum of $12,000 toward the project. Bridy was appointed to represent the commissioners in overseeing the project.

Also: - The board authorized the tax claims bureau to conduct a private sale of real estate for properties at 126 N. Marshall St., Shamokin; 8 N. Shamokin St., Shamokin, and 107 E. Avenue, Mount Carmel.

- The commissioners allocated up to $80,000 from the Act 137 Affordable Housing Fund to the weatherization department to bridge a funding gap to help maintain the department's projects and services to low to moderate income county residents.

- County planning director Pat Mack, who is in charge of Community Development Block Grant funding received by the county from the state that is used to demolish properties under a countywide blight program, reported a property at 52 Mountain Road in Sunnyside that is located across the street from his residence will be razed.

Mack said he wanted to announce the demolition project at a public meeting to satisfy a requirement by the state Department of Community and Economic Development to assure there is no conflict of interest with the property near his home being demolished.
