Registration is Now Open for the Institute for Allied Health Educators
WASHINGTON --(Business Wire)--
The Institute for Allied Health Educators (IAHE): an American
Dental Education Association (ADEA) and Academy for Academic
Leadership (AAL) collaboration, with exclusive sponsorship from
Colgate-Palmolive Co., presents the first of three 2013 online training
programs starting on January 16.
January's program, Teaching Foundations in Allied Health Education,
consists of five individual sessions that focus on effective methods for
didactic and clinical teaching, with emphasis placed on case-based
learning, course planning, best practice techniques, portfolios, and
working with struggling students. All sessions are conducted in the
evenings and are paired with offline course work to supplement the live
presentations and discussions. Upon completion of the program,
participants will be able to design successful courses with appropriate
outcome measurements and expand their capabilities as clinic and
classroom lecturers.
ADEA/AAL IAHE alumna Suzanne Hopper, Academic Director at Oregon
Institute of Technology, praises the program. "Whether you are brand new
to education, or have been teaching for a few years or for many years,
you will finish this course with new ideas to incorporate into the
classroom and clinic. The facilitators are very knowledgeable,
encouraging, and supportive."
Also scheduled for 2013 are programs in Advances in Educational
Methods for Allied Health Educators, slated for June through July,
and Clinical Teaching Best Practices, taking place in late
October though early November.
"This year's allied health education programs are already setting a new
standard of excellence, thanks to continual support from Colgate," says
ADEA Executive Director Richard W. Valachovic, D.M.D., M.P.H. "In
addition to sponsoring ADEA scholarships and awards, Colgate is once
again demonstrating its commitment to improving professional devlopment
by sponsoring the Institute for Allied Health Educators."
With Colgate's support the program has already implemented a new
learning management system and new web interface that allows for a
smoother, more interactive end-user experience. The new system debuted
at a well-attended demonstration and program overview webinar on
November 28, 2012.
Launched in 2007 as an on-site program at the University of Missouri -
Kansas City (UMKC) School of Dentistry, this professional development
program prepares faculty for successful academic careers in dental
hygiene, dental assisting, dental laboratory technology and other allied
health programs. Faculty in dental hygiene have made up more than 90% of
all participants in the program thus far.
